About St Joseph's Home For The Aged

Serving Middelburg since 1977 — inclusive care, dignity, and a safe home for seniors

🏛️

Our History

Established in 1977 by the Roman Catholic Church, St Joseph’s Home for the Aged was created to meet a vital need in Middelburg: a safe, welcoming home for older persons of all races and languages. From an initial 27 residents, the Home grew with community support and evolving needs, and today provides life-right accommodation, mid-care and frail care services to over 60 residents in total.

❤️

Our Mission

To care for Senior Citizens in totality by providing a quality and affordable service — always protecting dignity, compassion, and respect. We operate on sound business principles to remain sustainable in a challenging environment where many older people rely on fixed and often declining incomes.

🌟

Our Vision

To assist all Senior Citizens in need. We welcome residents of all races and religious denominations, support spiritual wellbeing through multi-denominational care, and maintain strong governance and accountability through structured planning, monitoring and evaluation, and ongoing compliance.

Trust, Governance & Transparency

Accountable care, sound governance, and a commitment to dignity and respect.

NPO & Public Benefit Organisation

St Joseph’s Home for the Aged is a registered Non-Profit (NPO 001-806) and Public Benefit Organisation, and can issue Section 18A donation certificates for qualifying donations.

Community-led Governance

Our Board includes community members who assist with day-to-day decision-making. The Board meets quarterly, supported by a management committee focused on participation, non-discrimination, transparency, and sustainability.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Audit

We operate with an annual strategic plan and budget, supported by a Monitoring & Evaluation system. Programmes are costed and reported on, and an annual audit is conducted by local Chartered Accountants.

Open to All

We are open for occupation by residents of all races and all religious denominations, and provide mid and frail care services to residents across the Home and cottages.
